Cinemas in England and Wales are starting to re-open their doors for the first time in several months now that restrictions are starting to ease. Although the cinema chains like ODEON and Cineworld have been given the go-ahead to open up again, the companies are expected to follow strict safety measures. Staff and customers are expected to wear face masks, participate in social distancing, and film times will be spaced out throughout the day.
Like many other industries and businesses cinemas have been majorly financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. Many independent cinemas have closed their doors for good, with other lucky cinema chains like Cineworld securing crucial funding from the Government to help them stay afloat. I spoke to content creator and full-time film production student Finlay Masterson on what he thinks about the cinemas re-opening and what we can do to encourage everyone to go back and support the industry:

Cruella (release date: 28th May):
This 101 Dalmatians (1996) spin-off stars American actress Emma Stone, playing the well-known Disney villain Cruella De vil, before the puppy-knapping, fur obsession started. Emma Stone plays the villain during her younger years in 1960’s London, her co-star is award-winning British actress Emma Thompson.

Fast and Furious 9 (release date: 8th July)
The infamous Fast and Furious cast has returned for their ninth addition to the beloved film franchise. This time around WWE star John Cena joins the cast portraying Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) long-lost brother.

Black Widow (release date: 9th July)
The newest superhero film released by Marvel and is starring Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. The film is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016). Johansson’s co-stars include Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour.

Space Jam: A New Legacy (release date: 16th July)
Over 20 years after the release of the original Space Jam (1996). Basketball player LeBron James stars alongside the Looney Tunes cast in this new, action-packed sequel.

Jungle Cruise (release date: 30th July)
Starring Emily Blunt and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson this new Disney film is inspired by the highly popular ‘Jungle Cruise’ adventure ride at the Disney World theme park.
