After just under a week, the long-awaited Resident Evil: Villiage sold 3 million global units beating previous game Resident Evil Biohazard 7 which ended up selling 8.5 million units by the end of 2020 after release in 2017.

This came following more good news from Capcom the games developer that the series had reached sales of 100 million units across the series 25-year lifespan.

Its safe to say that the opening success was not expected to be this prevalent despite its release on Xbox Series X, Playstation 5, Xbox Series S, as well as old generation consoles like Xbox One and Playstation 4.

As mentioned, the Resident Evil series itself is long running one, with the original game being released way back in 1996 but has kept is horror/puzzle style going through to present day across 8 games, with the last two releasing in 2017 and 2012 respectively.

The game also performed well commercially with a lot of media attention being focused on unique character Lady Dimitrescu one of main bosses of the game who has vampire-like tendencies.

The next instalment had some bad news when leading up to release as voice actor Jeanette Maus who plays the part of one Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters, sadly dying of colon cancer on January 24th of this year.

The early success has done wonders for the reputation of Capcom and it looks well on track for beating the 7th games sales record.
