Rafael Nadal beat Novack Djokovic in the final of the Italian Open to win his 10thItalian open with the final score being 7-5 1-6 6-3 victory. Rafael Nadal’s total grand slam has reached a record 36 which is level with Novack Djokovic
In the opening game, both players dropped service early on until Nadal grabbed control after gaining the crucial break at 5-5. However, Djokovic controlled the second set but suffered the price for failing to convert two break opportunities in the decider's fifth game.
The Spaniard Nadal broke the Serbian in the next game with a superb backhand before holding his serve and nerve to finish the game.
This was the 57thencounter between Djokovic and Nadal which showcases their rivalry as they have constantly met each other whether the matchups have been at the semi-finals or finals of their respective tennis open competitions. The head-to-head tally between the two tennis players currently stands at 29-28 in favour of Djokovic.
Speculations, whether the Spaniard is set to retire, has died down as Rafael Nadal has not shown any sign of tiredness through the Italian open. Throughout the competition, Rafael
Nadal has demonstrated that at the age of 34 he will remain at the top with the greats of the sport.
