England manager Gareth Southgate remains undecided on his 26-man squad
The European powerhouses such as France, Germany and Portugal have already submitted their 26-man squad for the Euros. England manager Gareth Southgate has until the 1stof June to submit his squad for the European championships.
England’s rejuvenated squad has sparked excitement as fans currently believe that at present this is England’s golden generation. The whole midfield has changed with the editions of Declan Rice (West Ham) James Maddison (Leicester) Phil Foden (Manchester City) and Mason Mount (Chelsea). This leaves Gareth Southgate in a difficult predicament due to all that talent that he has at his disposal, he would have to let players know in advance his intentions of leaving certain players at home or bringing the players he desires to the European championship.
Ultimately, Gareth Southgate’s most challenging task will be to decide his starting right back and his back upright back. As the European federation has allowed European nations to increase the number of players from 23 to 26 allowing teams to add three more players, we predict that Gareth Southgate will only choose two right-backs for the competition, and he will pick the three additional players for the attack.

For the European championships Gareth Southgate will have to choose out of these right-backs:
Trent alexander-Arnold
Club: Liverpool
Premier League appearances 2020-21: 35
England caps: 12
Trent Alexander-Arnold was left out of the England squad for the international break due to concerns over his defensive technique. Trent Alexander- Arnold has shown that he has amazing attacking qualities in the final third however, Gareth Southgate has dropped in the past due to his form dipping. Since this has happened Alexander Arnold had picked up his form and is enjoying his football again. We believe that Gareth Southgate will call up alexander Arnold for this summer’s European championship.
Reece James
Club: Chelsea
Premier league appearances 2020-21: 31
England caps: 6
Reece James is a versatile player who can play in several roles for England. His pace and strength can cause opposing defenders problems, while his technical ability makes him a threat in attack too. Chelsea fans are urging Gareth Southgate to call Reece James to European championships as he has the qualities of a modern-day Full back. However, we believe that Gareth Southgate will not call Reece James in the summer due to his inexperience, he will be a player for the future as he is only 21 years of age.
Kyle walker
Club: Manchester city
Premier League appearances 2020-21: 23
England caps: 55
Kyle Walker is the most experienced right back with 55 appearances to his name. He will be the starter in the championship. Gareth Southgate could accommodate Alexander-Arnold and kyle walker even if they play in the same position. This could be done because Kyle walker can play as a right-sided center-back in a 3-5-2 formation and Alexander Arnold pushes forward as a right wing-back.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Club: Manchester united
Premier League appearances 2020-21: 34
England caps: 0
The most inexperienced player on the list Wan-Bissaka has been capped in all the youth levels for England except for the senior squad. Due to his non-existent involvement in the England senior squad, DR Congo have reached out to him as he remains elidable to represent both nations. Despite being behind several other full-backs in Gareth Southgate's squad, the 23-year-old is still capable of handling the most one-on-one challenges. His defensive attributes are the best in the country however, going forward Aaron Wan-Bissaka must improve if he wants to be selected in the future.
England remains strong favourites to win the European championships however, what does the public think? Click the link below to find out:
